Replace Missing Teeth with Dental Implants in Arlington

November 11, 2016

Missing teeth affect your looks and oral function. Learn why you should replace them with dental implants in Arlington or other prosthetic options.

Dr. Douglas Baldwin of Foundation Dental Solutions delivers realistic tooth replacement choices. Whether you have lost a single tooth, multiple teeth or even all of your teeth, Dr. Baldwin and his dedicated team can fill gaps so well you’ll marvel at how well you speak and eat. Plus, you will love how our smile looks.

Why Tooth Replacement is Essential

People who have lost teeth because of advanced gum disease, oral injury, infection or extensive decay should replace their missing teeth. Gaps affect personal appearance, causing facial wrinkling and sagging and also bone and gum recession. Additionally, teeth remaining next to a gap weaken and drift to fill the empty space, affecting their alignment.

Tooth Replacement Options

Dr. Baldwin helps his patients decide what tooth replacement options are best for their oral health, function and facial appearance. The dentist looks at factors such as number of teeth lost,  age, gender, facial symmetry, overall oral health and bone density. He performs a comprehensive oral examination, including digital X-rays and three-dimensional imaging to fully understand bone structure.  From there, he formulates a treatment plan just right for the individual’s needs and personal preferences.

Here are the options offered at the Foundation Dental Solutions.  Customized, natural-looking and precisely fitted, one of these prosthetics is perfect to fully restore a damaged smile.

  • Crown and bridge This traditional choice is made up or dental crowns which support one, two or more artificial teeth in a row. Lifelike and permanently bonded in place, the crown and bridge requires flossing and brushing each day plus semi-annual check-ups and cleanings with Dr. Baldwin. Expect it to last about 10 years.
  • Partial dentures A partial denture fills one or more smile gaps on the top or bottom arch. Made from realistic acrylic and mounted on a metal frame, the partial is fully removable and anchored to neighboring teeth with metal clasps.
  • Full dentures Traditional dentures completely replace top or bottom teeth as needed. These dentures stay in place via the mouth’s natural suction, and when well-fitted, should need no denture adhesive. Made from tooth-and gum-colored acrylic, full dentures rest perfectly on the gums. The dentist places immediate full dentures right after extraction, necessitating relining or replacement later on. Conventional full dentures are placed after gum and bone have healed completely.
  • Dental implants Baldwin has a fellowship in implantology from the California Implant Institute, making him an expert in these modern tooth replacements. The dental implant is made of a titanium screw surgically placed in the jaw, a metal extension post and a beautiful porcelain crown. The dental implant looks natural and strengthens the jaw bone through a bonding process called osseointegration. Although there is substantial healing time required and a high initial cost than traditional tooth replacements, the dental implant is secure, attractive and lasts for decades. Multiple implants can support bridgework and full and partial dentures, too.
