Trips & Straight Teeth: 4 Crucial Tips for Traveling with Invisalign

Most of the time, an Invisalign treatment can seem easy to keep up with. You just need to wear your trays amidst your normal, day-to-day life. Still, what if you need (or want) to go out of town? You needn’t worry much; your Arlington dentist has great tips to share on traveling with Invisalign. As proof of these facts, here are four things you can do to maintain your aligner treatment while abroad.

Pack Replacement Trays

First of all, you should make sure to pack replacement trays for your trip. These “extra” aligners will help your treatment stay on track.

The fact remains that Invisalign trays are nearly invisible. Given this reality, it’s all too easy to misplace clear aligners and face treatment delays as a result. You should thus bring spare aligners from your previous set while traveling; you can use them if you lose your originals. From there, you can maintain your Invisalign progress without any obstacles.

Maintain Your Routines

It’s possible to take time off from work, but you can’t do so with Invisalign. You’ll need to maintain your aligner routines even while away from home.

Indeed, Invisalign simply doesn’t allow for “breaks” in treatment. Failing to wear (and clean) your trays enough will increase your risk of oral issues and delay treatment progress. If you’re like most folks, such effects aren’t worth the short-lived freedom from responsibility. You’re better off preserving your routines and setting reminders to wear and clean your trays.

Bring the Dental Essentials

Whenever you travel with Invisalign trays, you must pack the true “dental essentials.” These include:

  • A Travel Toothbrush – You should always brush your aligners (and teeth) before and after wearing them. So, pack some travel-sized toothbrushes in your luggage.
  • Dental Floss – Make sure to bring dental floss, as it cleans between your teeth and keeps debris out of your trays.
  • Travel-Size Mouthwash – Since a toothbrush can’t remove all your mouth debris, bring a travel-size mouthwash that rinses out those hard-to-reach places.

Tell Your Dentist Before Leaving

It may seem like a hassle, but tell your dentist you’ll be out of town before leaving. Doing so helps your Invisalign treatment remain stable.

You see, your dentist can take precautions when you tell them about your trip. A good example would be a final, pre-travel checkup to ensure your aligners are still working. On the other hand, your dentist could adjust your future visits to compensate for your travels.

Traveling with Invisalign doesn’t have to be disruptive. By using the tips above, your treatment will keep working even while you’re away!
